136 years of health tourism on the Crikvenica Riviera…
Crikvenica was recognized long ago by the first European (Austro-Hungarian) visitors who, in search of a place for rest and recovery, began increasingly visiting the Kvarner region and Crikvenica Riviera. Thanks to its favorable Mediterranean climate, mild winters, moderately warm summers, air currents, a mix of sea and mountain air rich in sea aerosol and ozone, and bays with exceptionally clean and shallow sea, Crikvenica was already declared a health resort and seaside spa in 1906. A significant contribution came from Austrian scientist Prof. Frischauf, who published the first guide to the Crikvenica Riviera – the Riviera of Health. Dr. Ivan Brozičević, MD, PhD, began promoting health tourism in the 1980s through various professional events and the founding of institutions. Dr. Vlasta Brozičević, MD, further spread the word about the health benefits of Crikvenica in the early 1990s through her professional work and cooperation with numerous institutions worldwide – especially through clients from 87 countries who came to Terme Policlinic in Selce and Rijeka.
In 1989, doctors Vlasta and Ivan Brozičević founded Terme Selce, the first company for health tourism, initiating numerous health-focused projects and leading the promotion of the region for over 30 years. By following the pace and needs of modern people, they gave a new, modern dimension to the health and tourism offerings of the Crikvenica Riviera. Through the Terme Clinic, operating in the heart of the Crikvenica-Vinodol Riviera as a center of health and sports, they continue the century-long tradition of health tourism in the region.
